Shirodhara

Ayurveda (meaning ‘Science of Life’) is one of the oldest healing sciences in the world, originating from the Vedic Period in India. It is centred on the belief that there are three energies or doshas namely vata, pitta, and kapha that govern all mental and physiological functions. An imbalance in any of the three is the root cause for all disorders. Its therapies hence are designed to reset the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

What is Shirodhara?

Shirodhara is an age old Ayurvedic procedure of slowly pouring a concoction of warm herbal oils on one’s forehead in a continuous stream resulting in deep mental relaxation, rejuvenation, and stress relief. The gentle pressure created by the oil on contact with the forehead serves as a direct stimulant to the nervous system and helps to induce a state of meditation.

Traditionally, the oil is poured from a copper vessel, held at a height of six to eight inches above the forehead, targeting the ‘third eye’ or the pituitary gland, also known as the master gland of the body.
